Tanzanian leaders reconcile
By Jewel Showalter Eastern Mennonite MissionsLAKE DIOCESE, Tanzania — After years of estrangement, some differences within Tanzania’s Mennonite conference have been reconciled.
Matiku T. Nyitambe, general secretary of Kanisa la Mennonite Tanzania, or KMT, announced after a recent meeting: “The Lord did a miracle! We have resolved the differences within Kanisa Mennonite Tanzania and invited Bishop Christopher Ndege back into fellowship.”
Nyitambe reported that the ordained council of KMT reinstated Ndege as a bishop of the Mennonite church. Ndege will become new bishop for the Lake Diocese.
Clair Good, representative to Africa for Eastern Mennonite Missions, phoned Ndege to bless him and to express his joy and best wishes.
“Bishop Ndege shared that the church has grown since the reconciliation,” Good said. “He said, ‘So many people are coming to the church building that there is not room for all to sit.’ … They have asked for us to hold KMT up in our prayers as God continues to pour out his Spirit.”
