Bringing work to church
On the Sunday prior to Labor Day, a police officer in uniform appeared, but no one was arrested. A fire fighter was present, but there was no fire. After a generous carry-in brunch, we listened to his sermon on labor. We will probably repeat this at a future Labor Day.

Centered in Christ
In his Sept. 21 column, Steve Carpenter listed boundary issues that seemed important in their times: military service, women in ministry, divorce and remarriage, head coverings, musical instruments in the home or sanctuary, neck ties or plain suits, Sunday school, eschatology, extended revival meetings and preaching in German. He urges the church to forsake its fixation on boundaries and instead be centered on Christ. What does that mean?
