Pastoral changes
Spring Valley Mennonite Church, Newport, Wash.
By Agnes GoertzenOn Sept. 27 we had a special service of welcome and farewell as we welcomed Meg Lumsdaine and her husband, Peter, and children Sophia and Brendon into our fellowship. Meg will be serving as our new pastor. We also sadly bid farewell to our pastor, Gary Jewell, and his wife, Jan Yoder Jewell, and their children Ria and Elsa, as Gary’s term as interim pastor is now completed. Cecil Miller from Warden joined us in our worship and offered a prayer for both Gary’s family and Meg’s family at the end of our service. We appreciated the time the Jewells spent in our midst and hope and pray that our fellowship with them will continue.
In August and September our Willing Workers Ladies’ Society scheduled two all-day workdays to finish and assemble our kits, which were taken to the Mennonite Country Auction on Oct. 3 for pickup by MCC. These all-day workdays were both followed by soup and bread suppers. On Sept. 20, we had a service of dedication to send the kits on their way.
Carol Peterson, 66, died July 15. Survivors: husband, Dick; and two sons, David from Newport and Larry from Virginia.
On July 10, we were blessed by a concert from the Voice of Praise Quartet from Harrisonburg, Va.
On May 31 we had a baptismal service for Sue Davis and Larry and Marilynn Moskwik.
On Aug. 16, we had our worship service in the wooded park area behind our church. It was a beautiful day of worship. The board of deacons presented a skit, and Darwin Hurst led our worship.
