Goodbye to pastor
Kidron (Ohio) Mennonite Church
By Phyllis A. LehmanSixteen people from Kidron Mennonite went to Mennonite World Conference in Paraguay in July, including all of our pastors.
Vacation Bible school was held July 17-19, combined for the first time with Salem Mennonite, with the theme “Catch the Spirit.” The project was for missions in Thailand, with Jeremy and Kio Sutter sharing about their work there.
Dave Miller, pastor in Milford, Neb., preached July 12. He is from KMC. Herman Myers filled in as pastor while our pastors were gone and spoke on July 19. Bill Detweiler, former pastor, preached July 26.
On July 28 our beloved janitor, Clayton Zuercher, died in a mowing accident at his home. He was our janitor for 14 years. Our new janitors are Glen and Barb Miller.
Many people helped with the relief sale held at Central Christian Aug. 1. Our KMC Penny Power came to $3,819.
Jenni Miller was baptized and Ryan and Hannah Steiner were received as new members on Aug. 9. Kara Meyer was commissioned for Service Adventure in North Carolina on Aug. 9. Lois Kline was received as a new member on Aug. 23.
Steve Steiner went on a short-term mission trip with MCC to Sudan in August.
On Aug. 30 was our celebration Sunday with the Shues. Terry Shue preached his last sermon as our pastor after 12 years. Terry sang with his quartet, and his three daughters also sang. They were presented with a scrapbook and a quilt. Larry Augsburger will be our transitional pastor for the next two years.
Wedding anniversaries: Karl and Sharon Nussbaum, 25th, July 14; Bruce and Sherri Steiner, 30th, July 20; Milt and Ann Troyer, 50th, Aug. 22.
Weddings: Sheldon Steiner and Brittany Railing, July 11; Zach Geiser and Doreen Bartlett, Aug. 1; Glen Molitor and Anna Winkler, Aug. 8; Chris Steiner and Ashley Schlabach, Aug. 8.
Birth: Cole Isaiah, Aug. 19, to Ryan and Hannah Steiner.
Verda Amstutz died July 18. Survivors: four children; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren
Clayton Zuercher died July 28. Survivors: wife, Doris; three children; two stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
