Toll of war

By Ron GeiserA new Sunday school class began studying Shane Claiborne’s book, The Irresistible Revolution, in September. The author was a speaker at the Columbus Mennonite convention.
Later in October an intergenerational class began studying “Embracing Life and Death,” the fall Sunday school elective series.
Women who participated at Mennonite World Conference presented the September meeting of Mennonite Women.
The Health and Wellness Committee hosted a table at the Bluffton Health Fair Sept. 25. Information was featured regarding mental health issues.
Mission, Peace and Service Commission sponsored a Middle Eastern meal Oct. 4 to raise funds for Shahad Aldoori, an Iraqi student at Bluffton University. She shared a film showing Iraq before the war and the bombing and devastation of the war, which resulted in refugees fleeing to Syria. Shahad and her family were among those refugees.
Rachelle Lyndaker Schlabach, director of MCC’s Washington, D.C., office, was the worship speaker for Peace Sunday Oct. 18. Mission, Peace and Service Commission also displayed MCC’s photo exhibit on the civilian humanitarian toll of cluster bombs around the world.
Everett Collier was narrator in Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait in Lima Symphony Orchestra’s production of An American Adventure Oct. 3.
Jennifer and Aaron Chappell Deckert are new mission partners, serving with MCC in Colombia. She joined FMC as a youth and is the daughter of Terry and Bobbie Chappell. Youth Venture Club assembled 86 school kits to be sent to MCC.
Wedding: Anne Steiner and Nick Anderson, Sept. 5.
Wedding anniversary: Stan and Ruth Naylor, 55th, Sept. 25.
Fred Amstutz, 80, died Sept. 4. Survivors: wife, Mary; sons Dan, Jim, Steve and Pete; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
