Hiking Through

Walnut Creek (Ohio) Mennonite Church

By Lovina Troyer Brandt

On Oct. 25, Stanley Green, executive director of Mennonite Mission Network, preached on “On the Journey: From Here to There.”

On Oct. 18 two children were dedicated: Noah, son of Jon and Nicole Troyer; and Aubrianna, daughter of Lydell and Ruth Miller.

Our fifth Sunday offering in November went to participate in the Corinthian Plan for health insurance for Mennonite churches and Rich and Becky Bartholomew at Agora Christian Fellowship in Columbus.

We are donating 600 boxes of hamburger helper for the Holmes County Share-A-Christmas. Our Mission & Service Committee served a meal on Nov. 1, with donations going to Souper Thursday food bank to help purchase turkeys and ham for the holiday season.

Mennonite Women had guest day on Oct. 20 with Pam Yoder as special speaker. Pam and her husband, Matt, started attending here several years ago. She gave her life story. Our project was “Linus Blankets” for our local health services to give to children when they are ill.

Paul Stutzman’s story of his Appalachian Trail hike is now a book, Hiking Through, available locally in a number of bookstores. See his Web site. He hiked the trail last year alone after his wife, Mary, died from cancer. This is an intriguing story of personal growth.

Wedding anniversary: Bob and Connie Miller, 25th, Nov. 17.

Births: Sophia Grace, Nov. 13, to Mark and Heidi Hamsher; Kaitlyn Bethany, Nov. 16, to Nate and Julia Klink.

Adoptions: Tatiana, 6, and Kathrine, 3, from Colombia, by Ken and Sherri Hochstetler in November.

Marilyn Yoder, 79, died Oct. 18. Survivors: husband, Dan; sons Tim and Tom; daughters Colleen and Lori Rico and Diane Hardt.
