Love Fund
Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship
By Violet SearsOur congregation offered Pastor Joel Miller a five-year covenant agreement to have him stay on as our pastor.
We have benefited from his insight and delighted in his presence as he has guided our congregation toward opening our hearts and minds to our neighbors, our friends and our Lord. Pastor Miller accepted and began discussions concerning the future path of our church.
Guest speaker Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove gave our sermon Oct. 25. He has an engaging charisma that lets his message of stumbling across opportunities to serve God slip right into a listener’s head. He reminded us that there are occasions to help that present themselves all around us if we just open our eyes.
Cincinnati Mennonite Fellowship has created a fund for just those opportunities called the Love Fund. Established two years ago, we occasionally have special offerings to collect funds to help our neighbors in need when unforeseen crises arise. We have discovered that the Love Fund is greatly needed and widely used.
Pastor Miller has taken part in the Christian Community Development Association. This group is a collection of faith-based organizations that work within neighborhoods to their betterment. Our pastor has continued to reach out to other congregations to try to facilitate our growth as a caring community that is willing to serve. On Nov. 14, CMF also took part in People Working Cooperatively, a similar assembly of organizations that are willing to help others with chores they can no longer perform without help.
Jan Abel lost her battle with cancer and died recently. She is survived by her husband, Stan.
