Lighten up a little
By Jep Hostetler Columbus, OhioAs a “Mennonite humorist” (somewhat of an oxymoron), I found Rhoda Janzen’s book, Mennonite in a Little Black Dress: A Memoir of Going Home, uproariously funny.
A testament to our stodginess comes from those who take her every word too seriously. Obviously she still adores her Mennonite Brethren roots, in spite of good-natured pokes at their foibles. To those who chastise her for inaccuracies regarding Mennonites in general, I simply invite us all to lighten up a little, chortle more and have a glass of cider.
