Magnificat and mission
Holdeman Mennonite Church, Wakarusa, Ind.
By Bonnie Gerber“Let Your Face Shine” was the theme of our Advent services. We were encouraged to memorize “The Magnificat” from Luke 1 and recited it together each week.
Our annual Christmas program project was collecting food items for the Christian Development Center in Nappanee. We hosted a “longest night of the year” service Dec. 21, to which we invited anyone in the community who wanted to remember a loved one no longer with them. The women’s sewing group made about 20 Christmas plates of cookies and fruit for shut-ins and elderly in the community and the church family.
On Jan. 11, church statesman Peter Wiebe shared the message with us. Marlene Kroeker from Mennonite Mission Network presented us with a “Moment in Mission” and children’s time. At noon was a congregational potluck birthday dinner, at which we were invited to sit at the tables of our birthday season. Each of the four groups of tables had been decorated by an adult Sunday school class. We also brought small goodies to prepare care boxes for each of our eight college students.
