Passing on tradition
College Mennonite Church, Goshen, Ind.
By Barbara E. SmuckerCMC’s Mennonite Women is sponsoring “Passing on Tradition.” Women, including college students, knot comforters, make and quilt quilts and knit. The college students are creating a quilt to donate to the Michiana Mennonite Relief Sale.
The task group for evaluating the organizational structure of CMC was announced: Klaudia Smucker, Roy Hartzler, Larry Miller, David Birky, Vicki Yoder, Laura Green and George Smucker, chair. Gary Martin is the staff person for the group.
For New Perspectives on Faith, J. Denny Weaver spoke Jan. 11 on “Rescuing God from Anselm: Whose Violence Is It?” A panel of Judy Eash, Rod Kaufman, Pete Oakley and Barb Springer spoke Feb. 8 on “Church Alumni: Spiritual Pilgrimage Beyond the Organized Church.”
Parables, Goshen College traveling worship team, presented the worship service on Jan. 18. Ethel Kambs Umble was honored Feb. 1 for her 75 years as a church organist and four decades at the organ here at CMC. She continues as one of our regular organists.
On Feb. 8, Don Yost brought the message “Stories from New Tables.” One table is Zion Community Church near Syracuse. The youth group from this mostly Hispanic congregation led some singing.
Daniel and Talashia Keim Yoder began as ministers for youth and young adults. Talashia was licensed on Feb. 15. Daniel was previously ordained.
This winter Bill and Phyllis Miller are serving with SOOP at Lakewood Retreat, a Mennonite camp near Brooksville, Fla.
Edna M. Yoder, 89, died Jan. 1.
Otto D. Klassen, 81, died Jan. 31. Survivors: wife, Jerrie Ganger; daughters Ruth Andrews, Frieda McRae, Bess Klassen-Landis, Michelle Antioho and Suzy Klassen; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Harold R. Neumann, 75, died Feb. 12. Survivors: wife, Joanne Herbst; daughters Laurie Neumann Nafziger and Lisa Heinz; sons Mark and Kurt; and 10 grandchildren.
Kathryn Stalter, 88, died Feb. 20. Survivors: husband, John; daughters Kathleen Najar and Loretta Cross; son Sanford; and one grandson.
