Mennonite schools compete in soccer

Lancaster Mennonite defeats Christopher Dock Mennonite at high school state quarterfinals

READING, Pa. — In a postseason match of sister schools, the Lancaster Mennonite High School girls soccer team defeated Christopher Dock Mennonite High School 2-1 on May 29.

The state quarterfinal match was the first postseason game between Lancaster Mennonite and Christopher Dock.

Lancaster Mennonite sophomore Rachel Dickinson tapped in her first varsity goal to clinch the win in double overtime.

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AA game was played at Exeter High School.

Lancaster Mennonite, the defending state champion, went on to beat Fleetwood 3-0 in the semifinals on June 2. In the state championship game, Lancaster Mennonite lost to Donegal 3-0 on June 5 at Hersheypark Stadium.

Last year’s state championship win was the first for a Lancaster Mennonite team.

Two years ago Lindsey Shertzer was the first Lancaster Mennonite individual to win at the state level when she captured the Class AA 1,600-meter title.

Last fall senior David Denlinger won the PIAA golf champsionship, a first for Lancaster County since 1988.

Christopher Dock teams have won five state championships: boys soccer in 2002, 2003 and 2005, and baseball in 2005 and 2006.
