Earthquake in Honduras damages churches, home
By Ferne Burkhardt Mennonite World ConferenceSeveral Mennonite church buildings were damaged during a May 28 earthquake in Honduras.
The earthquake, which measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, left at least six people dead and 25 injured throughout Honduras.
Javier Soler, president of Mennonite World Conference member church Amor Viviente (Living Love) in the country, reports that the congregations apparently did not suffered casualties.
The epicenter of the two-minute quake was the Caribbean coast just north of Bay Islands. On the Bay Islands, the house of the pastor of Amor Viviente La Lima was badly shaken because of the kind of construction in that area. The family lost personal and electronic items.
Soler continued his efforts to contact pastors throughout the country, but communication was difficult. Electricity was interrupted in several areas; Internet connections, phones and mobiles were not working.
Soler is requesting prayer for victims of the quake and that God will give people strength to rebuild and repair damage and to continue to do God’s work as they recover.
