Not silent
James Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, Pa.
By Carol Steffy“None can stop the Spirit burning now inside us. We will shape the future. We will not be silent!”
This refrain from the song, “How can we be silent,” in the Sing the Journey songbook served as the theme song for worship during the eight Sundays of Easter. Used in various ways by different worship and song leaders, the song became a testimony not only to the movement of the Spirit within us, but also an invitation for us to proclaim in words and actions Christ’s ministry to the world through us.
JSMC received six new members April 26 by transfer of letter or confession of faith: Brian Gish, David and Gillian Lindheim, Susan Mast, and David and Kelly Shenk.
JSMC celebrates important milestones in the lives of our children through Faith Markers, which are presented during the church service. Two faith markers were presented during May. On May 3 we recognized the following high school graduates by presenting them with a daily calendar, 366 Days to Peace: Stephanie Cabezas, Kate Grosh, Morgan Hartz, Sarah Horst, Matt Hostetter, David Lever, Ben Sprunger and Kevin Winters. Fifth grade students were presented with the book, Coals of Fire, by Elizabeth Hershberger Bauman, on May 24: Haley Boone, Eric Christaldi, Alex Giagnocavo, Anthony Hartz, Tiffanie Horning, Rashawn Myers, Farah Owaid, Emily Peifer, Seth Weaver and Darren Winters. If you have ever wondered what the Scripture “you will heap coals of fire on their heads” (Rom. 2:20) is about, this book on peace will tell you.
Births: Munira Joy Stoltzfus Siegrist, Feb. 16, to Phil and Deborah Siegrist; Brogan Brian Pipkin, May 13, to Brian and Shannon Pipkin; Sebastian Roy Martin, May 24, to Kirsten and Tim Johnsen Martin.
Jack Lennon, 79, died Feb. 22. Survivors: wife, Mary; sons Marvin, David and Don.
