Faith and food

Park View Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Va.

By Peggy H. Landis

“Faith and Food: Stewardship of God’s Gifts at the Table” was the theme of the June worship series with attention to health, time, money and worship.

On June 14, Candace Willis prepared a pot of vegetable stew during the service while the congregation enjoyed the appetizing aroma. A small cupful was presented to each one present as we shared the benediction together. The series concluded with the celebration of communion on June 28.

“Rescue in the Night,” the musical story of Daniel in the lions’ den, was presented by the children’s choir under the direction of Judy Bomberger on May 10. Joey Sun sang the role of Daniel.

“Creative Prayer Experience” was the theme for the third annual “Women’s Weekend Away” held at Highland Retreat May 15-17. Constructing a strand of symbolic prayer beads was a highlight of the retreat.

Eight 13-year-olds were blessed by family and friends in a “coming of age” ceremony on May 3: Kiara Boettger, Jordan Leaman, Michaela Mast, Abe Nouri, Emma Petersheim, Caleb Schrock-Hurst, Alex Wessner and Evan White. Each was given a dancing flame oil lamp as a symbol of the presence of Christ’s light within them.

Six young people each presented a meaningful statement of faith prior to baptism on May 24. They were Carissa Boettger, Aaron Erb, Brendan Erb, Jordan Leaman, Annika Maust and Joshua Parks.

Four new members were received on June 21 by transfer and confession of faith: Daniele Ressler, Eric Beck, Susan Landes Beck and Sarah Sensamaust.

Wedding: Laura Helmuth and Asahel Church, June 6.

Birth: Keaton Wenger, June 25, to Brent and Heidi Wenger Yoder.
