Mission, service trips
Willow Springs Mennonite Church, Tiskilwa, Ill.
By Vernice BeglyOur church participated in the annual Tiskilwa Community Bible School that ran June 7-11. The theme this year was “Catch the Spirit.”
Two of our college students are in the Goshen College Study-Service Term. Jenna Zehr is in Guatemala and is the daughter of Cal and Carol Zehr, and Aaron Kaufmann is in Germany and is the son of Phil and Pam Kaufmann.
June was a special missions trip month for our congregation. April Zehr went to Bolivia for a month through the Mennonite Adventure Service program. Their team helped with the construction of a new day care center. She is the daughter of Cal and Carol Zehr. Matt Kauffman traveled to South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was able to get medicines through customs for a hospital in Zimbabwe. Prior to his departure we raise $963 in a special offering for the Ekuphileni Bible Institute in Zimbabwe.
On June 14, Willow Springs had a special commissioning service for Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center summer staff, who were anointed in preparation for the children’s weekly camps.
Salt & Light Co., a small mixed ensemble from Rosedale Bible College, presented a program July 22 at Tiskilwa’s west park. This was a follow-up event to the Community Bible School. Our church joined other Tiskilwa families in hearing upbeat worship music from around the world.
On July 26, the Menno Haven camp staff led us in a creative, spirited worship service on their theme for the summer.
