Choice to follow Jesus
Sermon on the Mount Mennonite, Sioux Falls, S.D.
By Roine KlassenIn preparation for the Mennonite Church USA convention, we met several Sundays over lunch for discussions on “Following Jesus in a World That Is Not.”
During the summer, we have had opportunity to share our baptism stories with the congregation. Several have shared their stories.
Pastor Rosie Epp’s sermon June 7 outlined some of the choices we need to make as we follow Jesus. Do we as Christians and Mennonites need to be more visible in our following? How do we try to understand situations that differ from our own? How do we use our voices to confront injustice in our government and the world?
Glenn Schumacher continues to recover in the rehabilitation center in Omaha, Neb.
New members of the MVS unit are coming in August, so members of the congregation spent time cleaning the MVS house on July 18.
Pastor Epp used Rom. 12:1-8 as the text for the first in her series of messages based on letters in the New Testament. Paul encouraged the church to live in community, taught them how to relate to civil authorities and to expect Christ’s return. Paul wanted the church to apply their faith to spiritual and physical aspects of their lives.
In preparation for the Minn-Kota Festival for World Relief, weekly collections of coins and cash were gathered to support MCC water projects in various countries. Many were involved in baking pies and kuchen, brewing coffee, carrying trays, quilting and working at the Ten Thousand Villages booth.
Hugo Reimer, father of Ray Reimer and Rosie Epp, died July 23.
