Summer activities
Emmanuel Mennonite Church, La Junta, Colo.
By Carolyn StutzmanThe evening of July 19 was just right for our congregation and friends to gather at the local swimming pool for our annual swim party.
Thunder, lightning and showers cut short our water time but allowed us to gather around the tables for refreshments and visiting.
Emmanuel hosted conference minister Herm Weaver July 26. After presenting the message, Weaver was available to the group as we discussed the beginning steps in our search for a transitional minister as well as a permanent pastor.
The theme for our annual church retreat, held at Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp on Aug. 14-16, was “God’s Plan and Faithfulness.” Worship, singing, games, our favorite talent night show and visiting occupied our time. Sunday worship used everyone’s help as four groups enacted Scripture passages that illustrated the working out of God’s plans in the lives of individuals. Comments from the groups helped us relate these passages to Emmanuel’s circumstances.
During children’s time in the worship service of Aug. 30, the children helped pack a school kit. After this, a dedication was held for the 100 kits we had ready to send to MCC Central States.
