Learning and serving
Peace Mennonite Community Church, Aurora, Colo.
By William T. McConnellWe enjoyed fresh opportunities to learn and serve in the summer months. Transition pastor Pat Hobin conducted small group leaders’ training on June 20 in anticipation of restarting discipleship groups in the fall. We opened our building to a fourth congregation, Lighthouse International Kingdom Embassy Church, for July and August.
Bill McConnell represented the church at the Mountain States Mennonite Conference annual assembly, hosted by First Mennonite in Denver, and also at the national conference in Columbus, Ohio. In preparation for this, he led a Sunday school class on issues of Mennonite identity, using the booklet “What Is an Anabaptist Christian?” On his return, he reported on the conference events and resolutions. Preston and Marjorie Hofer and their family attended the Mennonite World Conference in Paraguay.
More than 50 members attended a social evening July 25 at Pat Hobin’s home in Evergreen, which included time for reflection on progress made, both congregational and individual, in the past year.
Each year the church offers freshly picked peaches from Colorado’s western slope to members, friends and other congregations in the metro Denver area. This year we sold 300 boxes!
The pastoral search committee was formed. An income task force reviewed suggestions for improving the church’s budget imbalance.
Wedding anniversary: Bill and Beth McConnell, 45th, June 13.
