Crosses of remembrance

FORT BENNING, Ga. — Members of Bluffton (Ohio) University’s peace club marched with more than 20,000 protestors Nov. 22 at the military training center formerly known as the School of the Americas.

Protests calling for center — now named the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation — to close have been held annually since 1990.

Many human rights violators and dictators in Latin America have graduated from the SOA, along with thousands of others involved in armed forces in nations such as Chile, El Salvador, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.
