Seats at the table

By Phil Siegrist Lancaster, Pa.

“He who has not traveled thinks his mother cooks best.” So says an African proverb. As I read Mennonite Weekly Review, I see numerous articles written by people raised in or living in North America. I appreciated reading words from Victor Perez of Paraguay, Nellie Mlotshwa of Zimbabwe, Yesya Abdi of Indonesia and Calixte Bananzaro of Burkina Faso in MWR’s Quotes from 2009. How much time will pass in the New Year before a writer from South America, Asia or Africa is invited to submit an entire article for publication?

Comments

  • We at Mennonite Weekly Review would be delighted to have more authors from continents other than North America. We welcome suggestions of authors we can contact. We print primarily news reports and feature articles, as well as occasional perspectives. MWR readers with suggestions, or potential authors themselves, can feel free to comment here (with your e-mail showing only to me) or e-mail me at my first name @mennoweekly.org. As time permits, I can do some translation from Spanish, but for the most part articles need to be in English.
