Celebrating abundance
North Main Street Mennonite Church, Nappanee
By CorrespondentDavid Sutter, pastor at Kern Road Mennonite Church in South Bend, conducted special meetings at North Main on Oct. 4.
Wedding: Shana Kandel and Kevin Fitzpatrick, Oct. 10.
On Oct. 17, the fellowship hall was filled with community and church people enjoying a pancake and sausage breakfast. The proceeds of this went into the Mission Fund of the church.
While our community is suffering with the economic crisis, the worship committee felt we needed to focus on the more positive aspect of the many blessings we do have. November was declared the “Month of Abundance.” We organized a food drive for the local food pantry, collecting more than 650 pounds of food. Appreciation for the special people in our lives was displayed on a large board titled “Thank you for making a difference in my life.” The congregation added pictures and stories to this display. November sermons focused on God’s never-ending faithfulness.
The Junior Youth Group exercised their servant’s heart as they went to several church members’ homes and raked their leaves. The high school youth held their annual haystack supper on Nov. 7, with the proceeds going toward their service trip next summer.
On Nov. 1, North Main observed All Saints Day with recognition of the saints that have gone on and the saints still among us.
