MC USA ministry leaders end positions
By Mennonite Church USA staffELKHART, Ind. — On the 27th anniversary of her employment in Mennonite leadership, Marlene Kropf will retire.
Kropf will leave her position as Mennonite Church USA denominational minister of worship Sept. 6. She will continue to teach as associate professor in spiritual formation and worship at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary.
“Marlene Kropf’s ministry has nurtured the worship of congregations within Mennonite Church USA in a Spirit-led way,” said Marty Lehman, director of administration and advancement for MC USA. “Many church leaders have appreciated her faith-filled leadership and passionate commitment to worship planning.”
Kropf is a member of Belmont Mennonite Church.
Evon Castro, Kropf’s administrative assistant, has also made a career transition.
Since the end of November she has worked with Mennonite Education Agency of MC USA in Goshen. She assists with youth census and enrollment data gathering.
Castro began employment for the Mennonite Church in 1968 as a secretary in Scottdale, Pa.
She worked in the area of congregational ministry for 41 years. She moved to Goshen in 1972 to be part of the Mennonite Board of Congregational Ministries and in 1975 to Elkhart’s Greencroft building. She joined other Executive Leadership staff as they changed buildings again in 2006 to the current Elkhart office.
She began working with Kropf in 1983.
Castro is a member of True Vine Tabernacle, part of Indiana-Michigan Mennonite Conference.
