MC USA adds to staff, changes roles

By Mennonite Church USA staff

ELKHART, Ind. — February brought staffing changes in Mennonite Church USA’s Executive Leadership.

Ervin Stutzman, executive director, announced a different arrangement for executive staff, replacing the associate executive director role with two positions: director of churchwide operations and director of denominational support services.

Stutzman has appointed Marty Lehman as director of churchwide operations. She will have responsibility for communication, development, convention planning and church relations. She will also continue to give leadership to the Historical Committee, finance, administration and The Corinthian Plan. In the long term, finance and administration will move to the new support services position. Lehman will continue to have her office in Elkhart, and Kathryn Rodgers will serve as executive assistant. A director of denominational support services has not yet been named.

Leanne Farmwald began quarter-time with Executive Leadership on Feb. 1 as director of the communication team along with her role as director of marketing and communication for Mennonite Mission Network. This interim arrangement will be reviewed in the coming months.

Deidre Summerton Bias joined the Executive Leadership staff Feb. 22 as convention communication coordinator. Bias is responsible for writing all external print pieces related to convention promotion and marketing. She will also work with the children and junior youth gatherings and take on other logistical responsibilities as needed.

Bias, a Goshen-Elkhart native and a Goshen College graduate, attends College Mennonite Church. Most recently she worked as family outreach and public awareness coordinator for First Steps, a program working with children up t0 3 years old who have special needs and their families.
