Reconsidering anthem

By Leonard Gross Goshen, Ind.

Before we say goodbye to Goshen College for playing the national anthem, as some seem to be doing, we might reflect on the vital principle of re-examination.

We all need to reconsider decisions made, and Goshen has this ability as well. Taking the issue to the larger church for a second opinion would seem to be part of such reconsideration.

The national anthem is antithetical to our Anabaptist understandings of emulating the way of Jesus. To live out this Jesus vision is our intent, and we often fail. When we do, we ask for forgiveness. Goshen College continues witnessing to a forgiving, nonviolent love in many areas.
