Fuzzy picture of professor
By Bill Braun Fresno, Calif. In response to the recent article about the Mennonite Brethren professor: You’ve given us a still photo of a feature-length movie.
I realize that an article can’t encompass the breadth of each story, yet you’ve managed to enter this story several years into it and present a partial picture that doesn’t do justice to any part of it.
I know Mark Baker as a fellow believer, friend, neighbor and member of our congregation. He and his family served as missionaries for more than a decade in Honduras, and he now leads weekly Bible studies in the local jail, which inspires us to greater faithful service. His teaching on the atonement during our adult Christian education time at church has been some of the most lively and energizing studies we’ve had.
Mark’s consistent teaching and mentoring at Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary have stimulated a cadre of students to new levels of faith and action. Traveling in Latin America, he teaches what it means to be Anabaptist by choice and has inspired pastors and leaders in Paraguay, Peru, Colombia and Honduras. As a pastor, I am motivated by his dedication to understanding and living the gospel of Jesus every day and inviting others to do the same.
I regret that you’ve given us only a single fuzzy photo.
