View of atonement
By Mark D. Baker Fresno, Calif.Whenever an editor excerpts, it is difficult to retain the full sense of the original piece. As reported in MWR, I have written a letter to the British Colombia Mennonite Brethren Conference expressing regret and apology and stating my affirmation of the Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith’s article on salvation.
I am concerned, however, that the article about the letter may have led some readers to think I now embrace what I have previously critiqued. A line from the from the original article in the Mennonite Brethren Herald that was not included in the MWR article clarifies: “Although Baker’s basic theological position, which is outlined in his book and articles, remains unchanged, he says he hasn’t always communicated in the most accurate or charitable ways.”
For a fuller explanation of my position, I encourage people to read my books and articles.
