Published again at 92
Lois Kauffman published her first book, What’s That Noise?, in 1965, written to calm the fears of her brother. More than 100 of her children’s stories have appeared in Herald Press Sunday school papers. Now 92, Kauffman has published another book, Pedro’s Parade, an illustrated story about a boy who creates a parade with the help of friendly farm animals. This story written in the 1990s lay dormant until Kauffman’s son Dennis encouraged her and helped her to publish the book. Pedro’s Parade is written in English and translated into Chinese and Spanish.

Children engaged in Lent services
Throughout Lent the children’s feature incorporated a long piece of blue fabric. The first Sunday it was a tent under which the children could sit. Then it was formed into a well, a picnic blanket and a path. The fabric was then cut into cloaks, which the children decorated in Sunday school and then wore the next Sunday during the “Triumphal Entry.” As Jesus came down the aisle, they removed their cloaks and placed them on the path before him.

Keeping it simple
Great editorial on the value of a simple lifestyle! As someone who still has my 20-year-old “Live simply, that others may simply live” T-shirt, I was distressed to see that we “non-plain” Mennonites find so little value in simple living. I wonder what people think “following Jesus in daily life” means, considering that Jesus was an itinerant rabbi with few possessions.

What they want
“Hard-Won Right Still Prized” correctly indicates that “in an era of high-tech warfare, military officials don’t need or want draftees.”
