Inspiring generosity

By Ethel Harder Reedley, Calif.

A recent letter from Danisa Ndlovu and Larry Miller, leaders of Mennonite World Conference, gave me awesome information that generated praise of our living God.

When I think of countries like Zimbabwe, I remember the economic and political hardships in those areas. Now I read that our Mennonite faith communities in Zimbabwe have, not out of their plenty but out of their ongoing lack, generously reached out to the hurting victims in Haiti. For three Sundays they gave offerings for people in Haiti. In Ndlovu’s words, “I believe that gifts are not measured by the amount given, but by the spirit and motivation of the giver.”

God blesses this outpouring. This information is humbling, in that they love and give so completely. Will it affect me and effect a more generous spirit?
