Flocking fundraiser

By Edie TschetterKate Friesen is serving at West Union Mennonite Church in Wellman, Iowa, through the Ministry Inquiry Program for college students, a partnership between schools and Mennonite Education Agency.
She is shadowing pastors Dave Boshart and Martha Yoder and will work with Shana Peachey Boshart, Central Plains Mennonite Conference youth minister.
On May 9, the care group led by Brigitta and Larry Hofer went to Sioux Falls to dine with Don Piper, author of 90 Minutes in Heaven. Piper spoke about living a miracle and how miracles happen every day of our lives, and we need to recognize them and give God the glory.
The youth began their “You’ve Been Flocked” fundraiser May 17. The 20 life-sized pink flamingos roosted on many front lawns. Flamingo insurance was sold for those who wanted to avoid the landing of the flamingos in their yard. For a certain price, you could choose to flock someone. The flocking took place for nearly two months.
On June 6, eight graduates were recognized. Les Rensink, on behalf of the music committee, presented each high school graduate with a copy of Hymnal: A Worship Book.
June 7-11, 26 children attended vacation Bible school at Hutterthal.
Charlene Friesen, custodian, organized volunteers for the annual church cleaning week.
Birth: Samuel David, May 10, to David and Brandy Friesen.
George M. Hofer, 94, died June 18. Survivors: wife, Margaret; daughter Yvonne Schnarr; sons George J. and Rodney; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
