Campus Crusader speaks
Emmaus Mennonite Church, Whitewater, Kan.
By Gladys WiebeWe dedicated our new building, replacing the one destroyed by fire, on June 13. Pastor Steve Scott introduced the theme as “The Road to Emmaus” from Psalm 95. Each of the other pastors spoke briefly on that chapter and noted that verses 5-6 are engraved in rock at the entrance. Ted Veer, former interim pastor, brought the dedicatory message. The service ended with a choir singing the “Hallelujah Chorus.”
A baptismal service was held June 20 for Valerie Busenitz, Katie Claassen, Katie Thiessen, Megan Thiessen, Elise Toevs, Carrie Wiebe, Steven Busenitz, Josiah Carey, Daniel Claassen, Ethan Penner, Casey Wiebe and Denny Wiebe. They and Josh Hoover were received into membership. Atalie Busenitz was baptized Aug. 1.
Our church joined with 10 other area churches to provide food for “at-risk” children in the Remington school district. Our church was assigned the week of July 5 to provide 50 bags of food. Gospel tracts were included in the bags.
Merle and Ann Busenitz returned July 13 to Papua New Guinea, where they will be a part of aviation, education and Bible translation with Wycliffe for two years.
Tom Dorsch with Campus Crusade for Christ was the speaker at the missions conference July 18-21. Michael Busenitz shared about his ministry in Mexico as a missionary pilot on Aug. 1. On Aug. 8, Carrie Wiebe, Josiah Busenitz and Lonnie Penner reported on the four weeks they and other young people spent in Mongolia with Mark and Karen Binder to mingle with young people in sports camps and other activities to build relationships and share the love of Christ. Melissa Dorsch reported on her work with college students in France and will return for a second term on Aug. 17.
