In a historic and complex overhaul of the MCC system, MCC binational — which administers a $44 million budget for ministries in about 60 countries — will end March 31.
Instead of a U.S.-Canadian entity based in Akron, MCC U.S. and MCC Canada will co-own the international programs. Leaders say the shift presents new challenges and opportunities.
MCC U.S. will continue to be based in Akron.
On Jan. 20, MCC sent a letter from J. Ron Byler, MCC U.S. executive director, to staff and former service workers, saying:
-
About 32 people are losing their jobs.
-
About 71 people, mostly in Akron, Pa., who have worked for MCC binational and MCC U.S. now will work for MCC U.S. and serve the entire MCC system.
-
Nine Canadian staff who were working for MCC binational will now work for MCC Canada.
Some work is moving from Akron and from Winnipeg, Man., to other continents where MCC serves. Other work is moving from Akron and from other parts of the U.S. to Winnipeg.
“Jobs are relocating, but the level of staffing is remaining virtually identical, so this is not downsizing,” Byler said in an interview Jan. 20. “There will be more support and program staff than in the past, and more program leadership staff living in other continents.”

What's really going on here? Are we running out of $$$ or has there been poor management? Let's get down to the bottom line.
