In the U.S., income inequality has grown dramatically since the 1970s. A recent study found the top one-tenth of 1 percent had more combined pre-tax income in 2004 than the poorest 120 million people.
The wealthiest 20 percent own a whopping 85 percent of all privately held wealth.
