MDS project helps Bayou community to grow food
Mennonite Disaster Service is helping people near Grand Bayou, La., use cage-like baskets — often used for military fortification during warfare — to create elevated gardens.
The raised-bed gardens project, initiated and designed by the community prior to last summer’s Gulf Coast oil spill, is creating a sustainable source of vegetables, trees and native plants.
