Growth, loss
Our worship services at the beginning of the year included many special occasions. Caitlin Clark was baptized Jan. 10, on Baptism of our Lord Sunday. We also welcomed new members upon profession of faith, Naomi Pridjian and Judy Studenski, and through membership transfer, David Harms and Bob Buzzard, during two moving worship services. We celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a lively joint service with members from First Church of the Brethren and Iglesia Cristiana Roca de Esperanza, the congregations with whom we share a church building.

Friends new and old
We celebrated the Christmas season with fellowship and worship. The annual cookie decorating party Dec. 13, hosted by Fred and Rosalyn Kniss, offered a chance to connect with friends new and old, including the Dyrst family, just returning from their MCC term in Mexico.

Rally protests Afghan troop surge
CHICAGO — Members of Christian Peacemaker Teams, Mennonite Voluntary Service and Mennonite congregations joined between 150 and 200 demonstrators Dec. 2 to protest a planned troop surge in Afghanistan.

Fall, sabbath and sabbatical
We were blessed with a rare sunny, warm fall day Sept. 26 for our annual apple picking outing in Galien, Mich. The apples were quickly put to use at our post-harvest potluck.

Sending, welcoming
With lawn chairs and potluck dishes to share, our urban congregation trekked July 26 to Indiana Dunes State Park to spend time in the beauty of nature, an annual tradition.
